Inventions-the Key to a Better World
Saturday, February 13, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Stroll through Benjamin Franklin's workshop and see what Ben and some of his
assistants are working on in the lab. High school students will be
demonstrating some of Ben's favorite concepts and experiments. Be sure to
stop by each station and see what's brewing.
Calling all scientists and inventors!
Be part of a community wide exhibit to showcase the scientific side of Franklin. Guidelines and applications for this exhibit are available in the Youth Services and Adult Services Departments or as PDFs below.

Who is invited to participate
Local youth and adults who wish to display projects and inventions inspired by the creative ideas of Benjamin Franklin. There are two categories: a Junior Category (Grade 3-8) and a Senior Category (Grades 9-Adult).
Criteria for Inventions
The following criteria will be used for reviewing applications and accepting invention submissions. This criteria applies to both junior and senior categories.
- Original idea/concept
- Appropriate for the objectives of the Benjamin Franklin exhibit
- Useful invention/research
- Displayed safely and neatly
Categories of Inventions
Ben Franklin believed in learning by doing and was a great observer of the world around him. Each of the six categories below focuses on a subject Franklin found important and essential to society. Use this list to generate some new concepts for your exhibit. All inventions must fit into one of these six categories.
- Experimentation with a product that will improve people's lives
- Meteorology
- Electricity
- Sound and Music
- Paper and Printing
- Lenses and Vision
