Computer Classes

Classes are open to those with OPPL cards. No registration is necessary unless noted. It is recommended that you arrive 30 minutes before class time as some classes fill quickly. Classes are limited to 16 people unless noted. For more information, call the Computer Help Desk at 708-428-5171.

Backing up your Data

Several methods of backup will be discussed, including backing up to a usb drive and to a server. Primary applications used will be robocopy, rsync and truecrypt.Server backups will also be discussed briefly as well as data encryption.Upon completion of the class, the person should be able to backup their pc's my documents and desktop as well as bookmarks and outlook pst files to a usb drive, using robocopy. Skill level for this class is moderate to advanced. As a minimum, anyone attending this class should be proficient in the Windows XP operating system and terminology.

Computer Mouse Basics

An introduction to the use of the computer mouse. Includes holding, moving, clicking, scrolling, and using basic applications. Class limited to 8.

Creating Address Labels

Create address labels using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word Mail Merge programs. Prerequisites - Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Creating a Resume

Learn how to type up a resume and sent it to employers via email or website. Prerequisite - Microsoft Word, Keyboarding, Email Basics. Class limited to 10.

Desktop Basics

A tour of the Microsoft Windows desktop. Includes the Start Menu and using a mouse.

eBay Basics

Learn the basics of buying and selling on eBay.

Internet Basics

An introduction to the use of Mozilla's Firefox browser.

Keyboarding

Need to type a letter or e-mail but can't find your way around the keyboard? This is the class for you! Registration requred for this class.

Microsoft Excel

Learn the basic formulas, entering data, basic formatting and printing. Typing and mouse skills required.

Microsoft Powerpoint

Learn how to create slide shows using Powerpoint. Typing and mouse skills required.

Microsoft Word

Create a simple document and save your work using basic Word options. Class is designed for the computer beginner. Typing and mouse skills required.

Searching the Internet

Heard of Yahoo!, Google and Lycos but don't know how they work? Learn the basics to seek out information and get results that matter. Typing and mouse experience required.

Searching the Internet, Part 2

Find what you are looking for faster and learn about the very useful information available through the library's web site. Typing and mouse skills required.

Working with Paragraphs

Learn basic paragraph formatting techniques in Microsoft Word. Typing and mouse skills required. Pre-requisite - Microsoft Word.

Yahoo! E-mail Basics

Learn how to set up a free Yahoo! e-mail account, how to compose, reply, delete and forward your e-mail. Mouse skills required.

Yahoo! E-mail Advanced

Learn how to set up an address book, create a folder, send attachments, set spam controls and set up a signature file. Existing Yahoo! E-mail account and mouse skills required.
