Computer Classes at
Smith Crossing

Outreach Services staff conducts monthly basic Computer Classes at Smith Crossing Assisted Living facility. Course offerings include "Computer Basics" to "E-mail Basics." These classes are for Smith Crossing residents only. If you would like computer classes brought to your assisted living facility, call Outreach Services staff at 708-428-5114.

Happy Birthday OPPL!

If you're turning 75 in 2012, celebrate your birthday with the Orland Park Public Library. The birthday party will feature the music of Die Musikmeisters German Band. The band's repertoire includes German Polkas, waltzes, marches, dance music, as well as a variety of American favorites. Guests of all ages are encouraged to celebrate with us.

Lip Print Reading

Join certified lipologist Michael Kett as lip prints are deciphered with razor-sharp accuracy. Everyone in the audience will have a great time interpreting their own lip prints.

Meet the Artist: Dena Cavazos

Friday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m.
Using photographs taken on location, artist Dena Cavazos develops the composition on a canvas and with collaged papers. Traveling the world has provided her with new physical images and has introduced her to alternative spaces and destinations which is reflected in her art.

Five Famous African-American Women

Notable historian, Ann Durkin Keating, Professor of History at North Central College, recounts an 1812 battle between Potawatomi forces and a retreating U.S. garrison in her latest work based on the Fort Dearborn massacre and the birth of Chicago to be released in July.

The Next Chapter

Just past the magazines you will find the newest "area" in the library-The Next Chapter, especially designed with older adults in mind. We've purchased new lounge chairs with a higher seat elevation (19"), firmer cushions and stronger arms to make your time at the library more comfortable. The Next Chapter is ideally located near the magazines, newspapers and large print materials.

 

Curl Up With a Good Nook!

Have you been curious to try the Nook eReader? Now you can check one out at the Orland Park Public Library. There are two Nooks available for circulation in the Adult Services Department and two more available for our homebound library patrons. The Nooks are pre-loaded with a selection of new bestsellers and classic titles. The Nook software allows users to change the text size from very small to extra large to accommodate readers of both regular and large print books. This feature allows patrons with low vision to read books that are not normally published in large print. For more information about checking out a Nook, adult patrons should call the Reference Desk at (708) 428-5150 and homebound patrons can contact Kelly Cuci in the Outreach Department at (708) 428-5114.
