The clock chimed the hour as Sage walked down the hall, her blood red hair tied up in a pony-tail. Dressed in jeans and a plain black T-shirt, she hummed under her breath as she went.
“Who's afraid of the big wolf, big bad wolf, who's afraid of the big bad wolf tra la la la la…”
“Sage, is that you?” her grandmother called out from her room.
“Yes, grandmother,” Sage replied not daring to get to close to the big metal door with five different locks on the outside.
“Won't you open the door so that I may see your face?” her grandmother cooed “It's been years since I've seen your beautiful face.”
“No, Grandmother I can't” Sage answered as she started down the hall when she heard her grandmother's voice slip through the door.
“Where are you going little one?” she asked her voice no longer sounding like her own.
Sage shook her head as she continued down the hall. There was no way she was going to open that door. She had to go and find help; otherwise things would just get worse.
“I got to call Alexi. He'll know what to do” she thought as she flew down the stairs and into the kitchen grabbing the phone and dialing his number.
Alexi was a guy who had moved to their small town just a few months ago from Russia. He was in her math, mythology and lunch hour. They had become fast friends and Sage was shocked to find out that he believed in a lot of things like she did; which is why she knew she could trust him with her deepest darkest secret that would make normal people think that she was crazy if they heard it.
Alexi picked up on the first ring
“Hello” he said in his Russia accent, making it a little difficult to understand him.
“Alexi it's me, Sage,” she said before jumping right into the reason she was calling “It's happening again.” Was all she said.
“Listen to me Sage, get out of the house! I don't care where you go, but get out of there” Alexi began when Sage heard her grandmother calling her in that sweet voice of hers.
“Sage...where are you sweetheart? Grandmother won't hurt you...”
“Sage, are you listening to me?” Alexi asked fear gripping his heart “Sage…Sage...Sage don't go up there!”
But Alexi's pleas fell on deaf ears as Sage started back up the stairs, her blue eyes fixed on her grandmother's bedroom door.
"Is that you, sweetheart?" her grandmother asked as Sage began to unlock the locks one at a time.
“Yes, it's me grandmother” Sage answered as she pushed the door open, the phone still close to her ear.
“Sage don't do it” Alexi pleaded .
“Come closer, my dear, let Grandmother get a good look at you.”
“My, Grandmother what big eyes you have,” Sage said
“The better to see you with me dear”
“My, Grandmother, what big ears you have.”
“The better to hear you with me dear.”
“My, Grandmother, what big teeth you have.”
“The better to eat you with, me dear.”
“Sage NO!” Alexi screamed
The phone fell to the floor. For the longest time there was nothing but silence, when suddenly Alexi hear Sage's voice...
“WHO'S AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD WOLF, BIG BAD WOLF, WHO'S AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD WOLF TRA LA LA LA LA…”
