Human Resources Generalist

Part-Time

We are seeking a human resources generalist who will be responsible for all human resources operations including, but not limited to library-wide recruitment, facilitating the performance review process, FMLA administration employee relations and employment laws.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates recruiting and screening of applicants and assists in interviewing and selection of new employees; and performs background check
  • Oversees the recruitment process including hiring and job placement activities and assists supervisors by providing training and consulting in hiring, supervising and evaluating employees
  • Develops and conducts new employee orientation program and exit interviews. Process all new hire and termination paperwork including payroll and benefits
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to maintain records on employees and on human resource related programs and activities including worker’s compensation administration
  • Monitor compensation administration and recommend changes to existing programs to meet marketplace competitive objectives
  • Keep current on State and Federal statutes and guidelines, which may impact the Library’s Human Resources practices
  • Coordinate Library Wide staff training initiatives and programs

Necessary Knowledge

  • Broad knowledge of principles and practices of human resources management of the public sector
  • Integrity in working with employees and handling confidential information
  • Considerable ability to work with diverse customers in a friendly, approachable, and tactful manner
  • Ability to work independently and with a minimum of supervision
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws
  • Knowledge of staff training and development
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently
  • Ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Human Resources. Relevant certification preferred
  • Minimum of three years Human Resource experience with knowledge of public sector
  • SHRM or HRCI certification highly desired
  • Must be able to travel locally for meetings and/or training

Position is 25 hours per week and includes IMRF benefits. Starting salary is $30.00 per hour.

Information Technology Manager

Full-Time

The Library is seeking an innovative, service-oriented, and technology driven professional for a full-time managing position in the Information Technology Department. This person will develop strategies for implementation and maintenance of technology services to the library public and staff while maintaining a high level of efficiency and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Works with contracted Network Administrator to supervise automated services
  • Oversees library’s computer hardware and software including installing, configuring, and maintaining new and existing hardware and software
  • Oversees operation and maintenance of Mitel Phone system, Tyco Security System, and other third party systems
  • Manages Barracuda cloud backup
  • Serves as liaison to computer software and hardware vendors
  • Ensures network certificates and webhosting contracts are renewed on time
  • Chairs the Technology Committee
  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates Information Technology department staff
  • Responsible for planning and executing of technology classes for the public
  • Plans and manages department’s budget, IT projects, such as upgrades and expansions of systems and continual improvements of the library
  • Develops and maintains the Library’s Technology Plan as it applies to hardware, software and network needs

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of technological applications, including Linux operating system, local and wide area networks and telecommunications systems
  • Extensive knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft and MAC products, web- browsers, website development tools and languages and electronic resources and computer hardware
  • Ability to perform hardware/software upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance and manage library’s computer networks
  • Ability to train computers users of all ages and skill levels
  • Ability to set priorities, exercise initiative, and make independent decisions
  • Knowledge of network user profiles and permissions
  • Knowledge of video editing and broadcast software, including Avid, IMovie, or Premier Pro
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Apple ICloud, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications in an update and maintenance capacity
  • Experience setting up and maintaining Sharepoint sites
  • Knowledge of Drupal-based content management systems
  • Knowledge of firewall and antivirus software such as Sonic, Sophos, or NetDefender
  • Knowledge of ConnectWise or other VPN software
  • Knowledge of NVIDIA or other graphic cards used in gaming and design
  • Knowledge of closed circuit security camera systems

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science or other computer related field
  • Networking certification through accredited institution
  • Two years staff training experience
  • Two years supervisory experience in Information Technology environment
  • Previous experience with Windows, Linux, and cloud servers
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Familiarity with makerspace technology, content creation and media production

Position is 37.5 hours a week, including evenings and weekends.
Starting salary $73,000 annually, plus benefits.

Reference Librarian I

The Orland Park Public Library, named one of Illinois’ 200 Great Places, is currently accepting applications for an innovative and service-oriented part-time Adult Services Reference Librarian.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory services
  • Participates in collection development as part of the Adult Services team
  • Develops and conducts book discussions and other book-related programming
  • Provides study room services
  • Prepares displays, bibliographies, social media content, and more

Necessary Knowledge

  • Knowledge of reference and readers’ advisory service
  • Extensive knowledge of bibliographic tools and reference resources in print and electronic formats
  • Excellent research skills, with proficiency in searching online catalogs
  • Knowledge of adult literature, including trends in popular fiction, nonfiction, and other media
  • Experience in current technology including digital reading platforms, library automation software, and Microsoft Office

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science or currently enrolled to receive this degree
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Access to transportation

Position is 12 to 18 hours per week including evenings and weekends. Starting salary for applicant with a Master’s Degree is $23.90 per hour.
