The Orland Park Public Library, named one of Illinois’ 200 Great Places, is currently accepting applications for a part-time Adult Services Reference Librarian.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory services
  • Provides collection development, including e-resources
  • Develops and conducts book discussions and other book related programming
  • Provides study room services
  • Prepares bibliographies, pathfinders, and more

Necessary Knowledge

  • Knowledge of reference and readers’ advisory service
  • Extensive knowledge of bibliographic tools and reference resources in print and electronic formats
  • Knowledge of adult literature
  • Experience in current technology including Microsoft Office, Internet, databases and Outlook

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science or currently enrolled to receive this degree
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Access to transportation

Position is 12 to 18 hours per week including evenings and weekends. Starting salary for applicant with a Master’s Degree is $ 22.60 per hour.

Assistant Manager of Adult Services

Full-Time

The Orland Park Public Library is seeking an Assistant Manager of Adult Services to provide library services and resources to a community of over 60,000 residents.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates staff who shelve materials
  • Plans adult programming related to reading, including reading challenges and book discussion groups
  • Collaborates on literature-based activities with colleges serving Orland Park residents
  • Meets regularly with the Adult Services Manager to discuss department plans, projects and needs
  • Regularly acts as Person-in-Charge for the Library
  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory service using electronic resources
  • Instructs and assists patrons and staff in the use of electronic resources on various devices, such as e-readers, smartphones, tablets, and more
  • Selects and maintains materials for the collection to meet the needs and wants of the community

Necessary Knowledge

  • Possess extensive knowledge of adult reference tools, materials and readers advisory formats
  • Possess extensive knowledge of bibliography tools and reference resources in print and electronic formats
  • Broad reading background in popular reading trends
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to set priorities, exercise initiative, and make independent decisions
  • Ability to work effectively with public and staff
  • Experience in current technology, software, and basic troubleshooting
  • Ability to use a variety of office and library equipment

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science
  • Two years public library adult services experience
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to drive on library business

Position full-time, including some evenings and weekends. Starting salary $64,000 annually, plus benefits.

Maintenance Assistant

Part-Time

The Orland Park Public Library is currently accepting applications for a part-time position in the Maintenance Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to general maintenance and cleaning; minor repairs, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and carpentry; and snow removal.

Responsibilities

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs, as well as proper use of cleaning materials
  • Ability to move up to 200 pounds with proper equipment
  • Ability to use and operate basic maintenance tools and equipment
  • Set up meeting rooms and other areas for programs
  • Must be able to work and communicate effectively with the public and staff in English
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, lift, and carry up to 75 pounds

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years building maintenance experience
  • Ability to meet library’s requirements for driving on library business and access to a vehicle
  • Available for flexible hours including some weekends and evenings

Position is 25 hours per week. Position includes IMRF benefits. Starting salary is $17.25 per hour.
