Reference Librarian I

Youth Services Department

Part-Time

We are seeking an innovative and service-oriented professional responsible for reference, reader’s advisory and programming. This part-time position gives the applicant an opportunity to work in a large library with a strong commitment to children, teens, and caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory service using print and electronic resources
  • Provides collection development for children age birth – grade 5
  • Develops and executes programming for all ages
  • Develops and conducts programming and book discussions
  • Is regularly scheduled at the Youth Services’ public service desks

Necessary Knowledge

  • Possess knowledge of reference and readers’ advisory services
  • Possess knowledge of children’s and teens’ literature
  • Extensive knowledge of bibliographic tools and reference resources in both print and electronic formats
  • Experience in current technology including Microsoft Windows, Internet, Email (Outlook and webmail), MS Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or students in a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science program
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Access to transportation

Position is part-time at 12 – 18 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends. Starting salary is $22.20 per hour for a completed graduate degree or $20.75 for a graduate degree in progress.

Adult Services Manager

Adult Services Department

Full-Time

The Orland Park Public Library is seeking an Adult Services Manager to provide library services and resources to a community of over 60,000 residents.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and manages workflow including selection and programming to provide excellent service
  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates Adult Services staff
  • Collaborates with Assistant Manager of Adult Services in hiring, training, and evaluating shelvers
  • Seeks out and applies for grants relevant to the Library’s mission
  • Is responsible for analysis and evaluation of reference and readers’ advisory services
  • Is responsible for collection development of adult materials in all formats
  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory service using print and electronic resources
  • Actively participates in planning, development, departmental budgeting, and continual improvements of the library

Necessary Knowledge

  • Knowledge of adult reference tools, library reference materials and reader’s advisory materials
  • Knowledge of bibliography tools and reference resources in print and electronic formats
  • Ability to train and instruct department members in reference and reader’s advisory methods and tools
  • General knowledge of library operations
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Proficient in current technology including Microsoft Windows, Internet, Email (Outlook and webmail), MS Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and basic troubleshooting

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science
  • Five years public library adult services experience
  • Three years supervisory experience
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to drive on library business

Position full-time, including some evenings and weekends. Starting salary $73,500 annually, plus benefits.
