12/21/2020 – A positive COVID-19 case has been reported from a library staff member. The library collaborates with the Cook County Health Department to promptly identify and monitor individuals who have had recent contact with the COVID-19 positive individual(s) to prevent further spread within our library and community.

Any individuals who have been in close contact (less than 6 feet away for greater than 15 minutes) with an individual that has tested positive for COVID-19 will receive a phone call with resources and next steps. An email will be provided to any individual who was in limited contact (inside for a prolonged period of time, without close contact) with the positive individual asking them to carefully monitor for symptoms and keep us posted if their health status changes.

If you do not receive the above notifications, then you were not identified as being either an individual with close contact or limited contact.

The health and safety of library patrons and staff is the library’s highest priority, and we recognize the uncertainty and concern regarding the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as well as the stress around all that has transpired due to coronavirus like working from home and e-learning. We are following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as state and local health departments for best practices and procedures to protect everyone’s health

We have been asking staff members who are identified as having close contact with the COVID-19 case(s) to quarantine for 14 days before returning to work.

We also have been encouraging ongoing self-monitoring by staff for signs and symptoms of illness and evaluation of illness reported promptly to identify possible outbreaks. Staff reports on their health twice a day while working in the library building.

For each positive COVID-19 case, we have conducted a deep clean and disinfection of the areas impacted by potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus.

As always, we encourage everyone to monitor their health and stay at home if they develop symptoms. Sick persons should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. Anyone who develops severe symptoms is encouraged to seek medical care immediately.
